Plaque in honour of Dorothy Bickley
HR Dorothy Bickley remembered
The late Honorary Ranger (HR) Dorothy Bickley will be remembered as an absolute enthusiast about wildlife, her unwavering loyalty to the Honorary Rangers, and her thoroughness in sending little cards of acknowledgement in the days when submitting duty reports to Head Office. The Honorary Rangers will miss her good humour and love for all – people and animals.
Bickley edited the contents of The Honorary Ranger 1964-1994, a publication that inspired many. This publication was an appetizer for the next edition, which was completed shortly before her death.
Bickley had a special affinity with Marakele National Park and spent a lot of her free time here. She was especially fond of the view from The Towers.
In her honour, the Marakele Honorary Rangers erected a commemorative bench, sponsored by Dorothy’s family, on the mountain top at The Towers, commanding a wonderful vista. The plaque reminds one of her love for this wilderness.
